West Coast Choppers: Jesse James Hollywood, TV, Custom Bikes, Harleys, Motorcycles And Horsepower

Ever seen a Ford Mustang that can cut grass at 70 mph? Ever seen a school bus that doubles as a pontoon boat? Such things are simply par for the course on “Monster Garage,” the Discovery Channel's wildly popular reality show that follows renegade guru of custom motorcycles and cars and the founder of West Coast Choppers, Jesse James.

Born and raised in Long Beach, Calif., Jesse James, aka El Jefe, built the enormous West Coast Choppers empire just like his Wild West renegade namesake and distant relative would have – his own way. Ever since he customized a bicycle and sold it for top dollar as a 7th grader, this LBC grease monkey has been welding metal, piling horsepower onto custom motorcycles, and expanding his celebrity right along with his West Coast Choppers garage mecca still located right at home in Long Beach.

West Coast Choppers has come a long way since its genesis in mom's garage, now a multi-million dollar industry that forges custom motorcycles for only A-List Hollywood elite like Shaquille O'Neal and Kid Rock. The completely unique and individually designed West Coast Choppers cost upwards of $150,000, each one built from scratch and artistically crafted for the buyer. Each West Coast Choppers bike is designed, pieced together, and painted with the ultimate open road experience in mind. Crafting only 20 bikes a year, El Jefe makes sure West Coast Choppers are some of the rarest vehicles on the road and definitely the most sought after. With an army of the most talented custom mechanics in the business working in his 250,000 square foot garages in industrial Long Beach, West Coast Choppers never disappoints.

Once the two-wheelers rose to fame, Jesse James started customizing cars and pushing West Coast Chopper merchandise, which nets more than forging bikes ever could. For those that can't afford the custom motorcycles or custom harleys, there are signature West Coast Choppers fenders, engine parts, shirts, jackets, and tons of other kinds of gear. James even started an auto racing circuit as well as a documentary film company, Pay Up Sucker Productions. But it wasn't until TV producer, Thom Beers, came up with the concept for “Monster Garage,” a West Coast Choppers themed reality series, that things really took off.

Beers aimed for a reality show like no other with the West Coast Choppers gang customizing insane vehicle concepts in just 5 days – just to see if they could. The result was “Monster Garage”: Where Ordinary Cars Become Extraordinary Machines. The show resulted in the creation of a Mustang lawnmower that actually cuts grass at freeway speeds, a police car that makes edible donuts, and the Porsche golf ball retriever. Every week presents a new challenge and a new unfathomable concept for a car, with James and his West Coast Choppers mechanics straining against time limits to invent, design, and construct all new machines. They almost always make it, but when they don't, James hauls the failed car out into the desert and destroys it with a machine gun that fires up 3,000 rounds per minute. Now that's the West Coast Chopper style that his Wild West outlaw namesake would be proud of!

With Jesse James' West Coast Choppers multi-million dollar empire still growing, Hollywood wife, Sandra Bullock, on his arm, and the custom motorcycle world at his feet, you'd think Jesse James would let it go to his head. But the lifetime Long Beach resident stays true to form. He still tears around town at 140 mph on the most beautiful West Coast Chopper bikes because he can't live any other way. Tune in to “Monster Garage,” Monday nights at 9 pm EST on the Discovery Channel, to see El Jefe and his West Coast Chopper renegades at work on their latest project. Chances are, it's like nothing you've ever seen before.
